After years under the tutelage of Charles Xavier atop more time getting to know Magneto and understanding his beliefs, Scott has developed his own vision for a mutant future. He believes humans and mutants can coexist, but understands that the path to that point is not one of meek pacifism. Mutants have to stand up for themselves as well as their allies until their enemies know to stand down and peace can have its turn. Logical to the point where some might call him cold, Scott’s brain is always running, connecting dots and creating plans and mapping scenarios. Raised as the General of the X-Men, his purpose comes first; the sooner wars are won, the sooner peace reigns. Despite his logical mind, Scott is not as stiff as he was during his awkward teenage years. Scott’s wit is put toward sarcasm almost as much as it is toward clever speeches. His natural passion and devotion make him a great friend and to the rare women special enough to catch his red eye, a loyal lover. Scott’s one flaw in that regard, as Emma or Jean might tell you, is his need to place the mission above his own needs, at the cost of his relationships. Physically, Scott is tall and lanky, with a body of strong, lean muscle from years of rigorous exercise. His brown hair is kept somewhat short, not to uniform length, but short enough to comfortably fit in the hood of his uniform. Scott’s skin is usually a pale tone, and while he may not have the number of trophies some other heroes have, there are a collection of scars along Scott’s back, waist and right arm from close calls in the field. Scott is a recognizable face of the mutant revolution these days, so much of the time, he wears the most recent iteration of his X-Suit. The uniform is a full body suit, dark red with lighter red lines adorning it. The material, as with all his uniforms, provides a level of body protection, made of Kevlar and fire retardant materials. His new visor is shaped like an X sitting on the bridge of his nose. The visor still allows him to manipulate the width and angle of his blasts, but more than that, it stands as his symbol of the mutant revolution. During the rare occasions that Scott wares his civilian clothes, he prefers plain jeans and button down shirts; nothing too fancy, especially if he is trying to lay as low as he can. HISTORY The first major influence of Scott’s childhood was the day he and his brother had to be pushed to safety from his father’s burning plane. The landing left him with the brain damage that would later in life keep him from fully controlling his optic blasts. Parentless, Scott was brought to an orphanage where the lonely, bullied boy lived quietly until his headaches started occurring. An optometrist discovered the unique ruby quartz lens that calmed Scott’s constant migraines, but soon that was the least of his problems. After his powers fully manifested with a burst of power that broke through the wall of his room. Feared and persecuted by the town, a mutant jewel thief tried manipulating Scott into aiding him, but Charles Xavier saved him from that fate, bringing him to a special school where he became Cyclops, the first X-Man. As an X-Man, Cyclops met many of his friends as well as the first love of his life, Jean Grey. After years of keeping his distance due to his fear of letting anyone get close to him and his lack of control, the two finally started a true relationship. To summarize the next years of his complicated life, Jean died then returned then died again, he married her clone, had a child, Jean returned, the child came back from the future, and he finally married Jean. Due to the stresses of leadership and the Phoenix, the couple’s relationship became strained to the point where Emma Frost worked her way into Scott’s mind and heart. When Jean died one last time, she urged Scott to move on with his life and he did. Scott served as a leader through trying times such as M-Day and the schism that split the X-Men in two. The truest challenge came, however, with the return of the Phoenix. Thanks to Iron Man’s interference, Scott became one of five Phoenixes. Though the Phoenix Five pushed for a better world, a war with the Avengers and the corrupting influence of the Phoenix pushed them all until Scott was the only one left, becoming Dark Phoenix and under that influence, killed Charles Xavier. With the reinvigoration of the mutant world, Scott has resumed his role as a leader for a new world of mutants lost with a need for guidance and protection. Taking the teachings of Xavier and Magneto, Scott hopes to forge a path for mutants with his vision, knowing that war would bring peace in time. POWERS AND ABILITIES Concussive Optic Blasts: Without a doubt, the most recognizable talent Scott has. When his eyes are not shielded by the presence of ruby quartz in his glasses or visor, his eyes activate their secondary function as portals between two universes. The element generated from his eyes appears to be a form of a crimson light, but due to the unique physics from the universe of their origin, the “beam” behaves as a physical form of matter. The blasts from his eyes generate no heat, only directional force. Since Cyclops’s time as the Phoenix, he is still struggling to regain the control over his powers that he once had, but at his prime, the mental commands that would allow a normal person’s eyes to focus, widen, and narrow could allow Scott to control the width and force of his blasts. As the beams travel further from his eyes, the force dissipates, lessening the pounds per square inch of force. At ranges within a hundred feet, his wide blasts are strong enough to force or break large objects, and his narrow beams have the concentrated power to puncture metal walls. With the control of his adjustable visor, Cyclops is granted even more precise control over the size and angle of his powers. Immunity to Certain Energies: Due to the psionic field generated by Scott’s body, should the red energy he emits collide with him, the matter would disperse without any force of impact. The same effect is true of the energy emitted by Scott’s brother, Alex Summers. Innate Spatial Awareness: Through a combination of rigorous practice and an inborn knack for trigonometry and geometry, Scott can naturally observe the world around him and map out angles and spaces. This uncanny ability allows him the ability to reflect his blasts off several surfaces to target a specific spot as accurately as though it was a straight shot. Hand to Hand Combat and Tactics: Through rigorous training with some of the world's greatest martial artists, Scott has earned black belts in aikido and judo. He is skilled to the level that, deprived of sight, he could still easily combat multiple normal opponents, and even hold his own against masters of combat like Wolverine and Captain America. His extensive training and field experience has given him an insightful mind that coordinates tactical concepts, even during the height of stressful situations. Telepathic Resistance: Scott's entire life has been lived around psychics who he shared close connections with, leaving his mind with a strengthened defense to unwanted intrusion that could trouble even some of the most capable telepaths. Leadership: Though not a mutant trait, Scott was raised a leader and leadership is a burden he has always carried gracefully through trying times. Scott’s conviction and determination give him the drive of a successful leader; his focused vision of a better future for his people grants him noble purpose (even when some might not see it as such;) his passion leads others to fall in with him, knowing he would sooner die than give up on them. ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE Scott had been burned by the Phoenix; punished for handling a power he never asked for, and his punishment was the loss of years of training and dedication to forming some semblance of control. A new wave of unsure mutants saw him as a symbol to bring them into his vision of a better tomorrow, and he was in a forest being betrayed by his eyes. Months ago, the targets Scott placed on the trees surrounding him would have been child’s play. The large targets had smaller circles in the center and top left and right corners, and once he would have placed a precise laser strike in the center of each circle, just narrow enough not to touch the black outlines. Now, some of his blasts were punching through the paper to leave a dent in the wood while others ravaged the entire tree, tearing the targets asunder. His power was inconsistent, and the only thing he could say for his precision was that his shots hit the targets somewhere, and that was not good enough. “No!” Scott punched the closest tree, feeling the scrape of hard bark against his knuckles. With a heavy sigh, he took a seat on the torn stump of one of the less fortunate trees. Looking up through the swaying leaves, weak rays of moonlight passed through the temporary gaps, hitting the leader’s face with its pale white light. Alone and away from his new team, Scott found it harder to feign the confidence his public face required. Emma was rightly pissed with him, blaming him for the state of her powers. It was Iron Man’s fault they were forced to carry the Phoenix, but he knew she traced the war with the Avengers to his stubbornness; he did not need to be a telepath to know what she thought now. ”I wonder what you would think, Jean… would you understand what I did? Or would you curse me for thinking I knew how to handle the Phoenix?” Even before he unwillingly took the power, he was training Hope for it, believing it could be the catalyst for his people. But I was right. None of the Avengers wanted to admit it, but the plan that set everything right was the plan Scott had intended from the beginning. Hope became the Phoenix and reinvigorated mutantkind. His vision had taken mutants so far already. He had to have faith that there was greater purpose to his struggles now. Taking to his feet, Scott looked up to the moon one more time. ”Watch me, Jean. I’ll make this work, the Phoenix be damned.” application was passed by archangel | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=valign,top][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width: 40px;] C Y C L O P S |
