She shares his short stature, dark hair, strong features, and mutant ability. As a girl, however, she differs from him in many ways. Besides from the obvious build and figure differences, her features are softer, her hair straight and cascading down her back like a chocolate waterfall, and her wide eyes are a sharp green. Her skeleton is where the major differences lie. Like Logan, she has six adamantium coated bone claws: two in each hand, one in each foot. Unlike him, however, the rest of Laura’s skeleton is still bone, allowing for her to be killed easier than her genetic template. Also unlike Wolverine, who is savage by nurture, Laura was bred for killing. Although able, and often willing to kill, she understands the difference between killing to protect and murdering, preferring the former of the two. However, she was raised to be an murderous machine, and due to this she is more prone to solving problems with violence, especially when the violence is towards herself, proven time and time again when she has severed her limbs and slit her own throat in order to solve a problem. Due to her upbringing, Laura’s emotions are stilted. That’s not to say that she is an emotionless machine, but rather that she doesn’t know how to express or quickly recognize her feelings. The only way she knows how to express them, is through self-mutilation. Because of this, and her poor social skills, she is very withdrawn and quite taciturn, especially around those she isn’t particularly close to. When she does speak, it tends to be in near perfect grammar, with little to no slang, and in soft tones. Laura is a very selfless individual, willing to put the safety and wellbeing of her friends, family, fellow students, and teammates above her own. However, she also has very low self worth, and is known to make suicidal decisions. She is driven and, at times, very cold to others. However, this, and her feelings of low self worth, has been improved with the influence of a certain Cajun. HISTORY X-23 was created after 22 failed attempts at creating a clone of Weapon X from a damaged genetic sample, in a place called the Facility. As the Y chromosome was unable to be salvaged, the clone was female, and was birthed by Doctor Sarah Kinney, a member of the clone project. After seven years, the lead doctor of the project, Dr Zander Rice, subjected the clone child to radiation poisoning, forcing her mutant abilities to manifest. He then removed her claws, coated them in adamantium, and reinserted them back into her hands and feet, all without allowing her any form of anesthetic. Using a variety of tortures in order to make it rage inducing, Rice created a trigger scent, one that sends X-23 into a berserker rage when she smells it. After creating this trigger, he gave the order for the clone child to be trained to be an assassin. Her mother smuggled her out, if only to save Sarah’s relatives. After doing so, X-23 was returned to the facility and her mother was fired. Rice assigned X-23 to assassinate a man and his family, while Sarah assigned her a different one: kill Rice and destroy any other clones. X-23 carried out her orders, but her mother was exposed to the trigger scent in the process, forcing X-23 to blindly murder her. As she died, Sarah told her daughter that she loved her, and that her name was Laura. Left with only a letter, and a few pictures of the Xavier Institute and her genetic template, Laura departed into the world. Eventually, she tracked Wolverine down and fought him, appearing to win against him. He, however, had known of her existence, via a letter from Sarah Kinney, and had chosen to let her win. Their talk was interrupted as S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived to arrest Laura, only for them to let her go because of Matt Murdock and Captain America. After this ordeal, she resurfaced in New York, mostly mute, and a prostitute for a pimp named Zebra Daddy. Laura escaped this life after meeting a handful of other mutants, later causing her to kill the pimp in order to protect them. After a staged encounter between her and the X-Men, she became a student at the Institute. After some time spent as a student and soldier for the X-Men, Laura was drafted into the X-Force by Cyclops, a move disliked by Wolverine and other students alike. After the second coming, she was dismissed from the X-Force, and later chose to leave the X-Men altogether. During this time, she traveled with Gambit, and later Jubilee, attempting to forge her own destiny away from Wolverine. After she and Jubilee saved a group of girls from a life on the streets, Laura was approached by the Black Widow and S.H.I.E.L.D., with an offer to join the Avenger’s Academy. After the fight between the Avengers and the X-Men, she turns to the people she was once closest to: her adoptive/genetic father, Logan, and her mentor, Remy. POWERS AND ABILITIES Healing Factor: This healing factor has given her heightened senses, reflexes, coordination, speed, strength, balance, and agility. Because of it, she is rendered immune to many toxins, diseases, and drugs. Her healing factor is strong enough for her to regrow or reattach limbs. Claws: Like Wolverine, she has adamantium coated claws, although only two of them are in each hand. The remaining ones are located in her feet, one in each. Fighting: Laura is well trained in various armed and unarmed martial arts, and in the use of long range weaponry and explosives. Others: Laura is highly educated, and is fluent in English, French and Japanese, as well as semi-fluent in Arabic. While at the Facility, she was conditioned with the use of a ‘trigger scent’ which had been used to send her into a blind rage. While in this berserker rage, she attacks and kills anything in sight. The only known person to have talked her down from such a rage is Gambit. ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE The smell of burning flesh, even if it was her own, was simply revolting. Had Laura possessed a weak stomach, she would have retched. However, she did not, and her healing factor was attempting to heal the burns. Laura sighed as she forced her motorcycle into a higher speed, feeling the urge to get as far away from the Academy as possible. The news of her leaving for Logan’s school had not been received well by the other students. Although Black Widow and the other Avengers had agreed that her time at the Institute had ‘humanized’ her far more than her time at the Academy, the students felt betrayed. Laura had been confronted by a wrathful Hazmat, who had wasted little time in pleasantries and had instead started lecturing her on how she was returning to the enemy. Laura had replied that her statement was false, as Wolverine had fought alongside the Avengers, only to be met with a fist to her face. The fight had been a quick one, but Hazmat’s blasts had destroyed most of her skin and heavily radiated her tissue. Her healing factor seemed slower than ever, which sent dimly registering alarms through her system. Maybe, something was wrong. It could be a simple side effect of the radiation, but it was hindering her progress. Not to mention the fact that her current state was bound to upset Gambit. Logan would probably just force her to rest until her skin was intact. Speaking of skin, she could feel the radiated cells ripping off as she drove towards the Institute, due to the speed she was currently going. It was a disturbing image, but not the worst she had ever thought of, or had happened to her. She pulled up in front of the school not long afterwards, her tissue and skin still struggling to heal. She sat for a moment on her bike, wondering whether or not she should go in, before cautiously sniffing the air. Faintly, she could smell them, but she wasn’t sure if she would be intruding or not. After all, she wasn’t a part of the school anymore. But she wanted to be. Laura wanted to come back, to be alongside them, despite Wolverine’s idiotic ‘children cannot fight’ rule. With that in mind, she got off her bike, and began tracking their scent. She found her genetic template first, and stared at him blankly, unsure of what to say. Finally, she settled with a simple: “Hello.” application was passed by username | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=valign,top][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width: 40px;] X 2 3 |
