NAME: Riley Jordon
AGE: 16
GENDER: male
HEIGHT: 5 feet 5 inches
FACE CLAIM: Hikaru
DESCRIPTION AND PERSONALITY:
Riley is a pale-faced boy with bright, hazel eyes that consume the attention of an onlooker more than his other, more average features. His face is round and smooth, with the jawline thinning closer to the chin. Also adding features his face are high cheekbones and a relatively small and more pointed nose, that rounds out into a sphere at the end of the slope. A splatter of freckles dots his pale cheeks and the bridge of his nose. His hair is an orange or ginger color. It's choppy, as if he or his twin, Connor, cut it himself. Riley likes to wear normal, random t-shirts that he got from normal, random places. He has a tie-die one that his mother gave him once. It embarrasses him to wear it, but it's his favorite t-shirt anyway and he does it every once in a while. While at the academy, if he did wear the t-shirt, he would probably write his mom right away telling her how he wore it to make her happy. Either a loose pair of jeans or a pair of loose-fitting exercise pants is usually what he wears on the bottom. His favorite sneakers are a pair of worn, gray Nikes with red laces.
Riley's twin is Connor. He is very protective of his twin, who is a little more submissive, and would never leave his side. He is quiet, but if anyone hurt his twin, that person would NOT BE SAFE. At least, Riley likes to think that. Even after Connor discovered he had powers, Riley was protective, perhaps even more so. He thinks that because his twin, people will pick on him more because he's weird or different. However, after arriving at the school, Riley will soon find out that he's the weird one - until he finds out that he, too, has powers. Thinking he has doesn't have powers makes him sad and less connected with his brother, so he becomes even more quiet and upset. Wimpy ones, really, but powers nonetheless, which helps him feel less out of place. He's bisexual, but refrains from coming onto people, just living with having crushes on the side. Even though he may seem mischievous on the outside, he can actually be very innocent and oblivious. If someone were to have a crush on him, he'd probably have no idea what was going on and think that they were just trying to be really good friends with him.
HISTORY
Growing up with his twin sibling and his mother and father was a simple life. He went to pre-school, kindergarten, all of those stages quite normally. Always protective of his brother, Riley was always by Connor's side. Riley was the one who got them in trouble if they ever did get in trouble. Spending Elementary School playing the "which one is Hikaru?" game - wait, I mean "which one is Connor?" game was entertaining enough, but he began to branch out when he reached seventh grade, when he had a huge crush on a girl named Lucy. It may not be very important to anyone other than himself, his twin, and his parents, but it was a big thing for him. When Riley was one-fourth of the way through eighth grade, he got up the courage - with the prodding of his ever-faithful twin - to finally tell her that he liked her. She reacted badly. It pretty much ended in Riley being thoroughly rejected. this made Riley upset, and he hasn't had the courage to go up to anyone he liked since. In ninth grade, he realized that he was bisexual. He told Connor first, then his parents. The person who made him realize this was a young man who was in tenth grade at the time named Johnathan. Of course, he couldn't tell him, mainly because his already-present fear of rejection redoubled in the knowledge that telling a boy was even more risky than telling a girl. His parents and twin were supportive, which was awesome for him and very comforting. Then, well, after that, it was pretty much normalcy. He had a pretty boring history, but, after that, when they went to the academy, and we're caught up to real time.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
Riley has possibly the stupidest power ever. It can be quite wimpy, but also quite useful - it really depends on how you view it. He can open doors no matter the locks or precautions there may be on them just by looking at them. Connor can never lock Riley out of their dorm room! And it'd be pretty hard to hold him in only a cell, since he can open it with a glance. But in fighting, it's pretty useless.
ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE
Riley's feet pounded through the halls of the school, heading as quickly as he could toward the dorm, choking down the suffocating lump in his throat. He felt tears coming to his eyes, but blinked them away irritably, not wanting to have yet another thing on his hands. It had all finally come crashing down on him; his brother was special, and he was not. That's why he felt so alone. Riley had always known that Connor was different, so he felt more protective of him. Yet here, where everyone was weird, where everyone was an outcast, where everyone had amazing powers, Riley was the different one. He felt as if part of his identity had been stripped away. He could no longer be protective. It seemed as if he was the one who had to be protected. The harsh, rythmic thunder of his feet as they hit the cool floor comforted him as he ran, in the way that small things could when you're alone. Like the crickets outside his window late at night, or the rumble of cars in the street of his old home, the sound lulled him until his frustration turned to weariness. He stumbled toward the door to his dorm room and gave it a glance. It swung open for him and he trod inside, walking toward the bed and flopping down on it. Soon, Riley's ragged breathing turned level as he sunk into sleep, tired brain not even comprehending that he had not needed to reach out to unlock the handle or reach out to open it.
After a good amount of rest, Riley opened his eyes slowly, wishing he could keep sleeping. Noting the time on the clock by his bed read 6:21am, he realized he had been in bed around 7:50. He laughed to himself, rubbing the back of his neck, as if with embarrassment. The redhead felt more cheerful now after a good rest. He quietly recounted the scene from the day before, shaking his head at himself silently. Then he stopped, wide-eyed, staring at the floor. Did I... Did I really... Riley glanced up at the door, which opened at his gaze. Oh my God! I can't believe that that really just happened! Jumping up from where he sat, his face painted with laughter, he realized that he did, after all, have a power. Throwing back his head, he let the joy out in a yelp of mirth. The words he was thinking came out in a rush and tumble, without heed of others who may still be asleep. "This may possibly be the stupidest power ever!" And yet it was still a power, and that made all the difference.
