She did enjoy this class.
Perhaps because it was taught by Headmaster Logan, who she still remembered from that very first day, when she was younger, terrified, and had no concept of the very nature of English. He had saved her, she knew, although she had also saved herself, that first day that she had killed...
Ah. No, it was best to not go down that route in her thoughts, particularly as the Headmaster was giving them a group assignment. This would be interesting!
In groups of two, they would be given a known mutant that they opposed, and would have to figure out how their powers best complimented each other for the attack, and how to neutralize them, in three different strategies. Seemed interesting. His comment on how if they managed to spar without getting caught and/or causing property damage, they would receive extra credit, caused her to smile, eyes crinkling up as the only visible sign.
Yes, it sounded interesting.
Unfortunately, he would be assigning partners, sending up a collective groan throughout the class that Sooraya did not take part in, privately fine with it. It solved the problem of her asking someone. Had she known who she was going to be assigned to, though, she would have immediately disagreed.
"Dust and Sonic."
At that proclamation, the Islamic girl's eyes widened, surprised and... a hint of fear stirring up within her and infecting it, as she snuck a glance at the dark-skinned boy. He had... He had flames. And she would have to be alone with him.
Oh... Oh dear... No, Sooraya was vehemently disagreeing with her earlier thoughts on how it was fine to have them assigned. Headmaster Logan knew, he knew, he had...!
Probably done this on purpose, to shove her out of her comfort zone. Headmaster...

Another day, another class with Headmaster Logan. Kevin knew a lot of the students had a special type of connection with the legendary X-Man, but Kevin was not such a student. To him, Logan was just a short, tough, hairy man with 'slight' anger issues and a thick skull with claws to boot. He did however respect him as a teacher, and as a leader of the team. He may question some of his orders, but he'd follow them nonetheless without too much hesitation.
He half-way listened as the Headmaster went on about a group project or something. When he mentioned the details of the project, the white haired teen's attention perked up and he listened intently. Assigned partner's huh? He had no problem with that, seeing as he got along fairly well with almost everyone he knew. He was a people person, so group activities were right up his alley!
"Dust and Sonic."
After hearing who he was partnered with, he turned his head with a friendly smile and gave the brown skinned girl a wave. He had no idea of her fear of his powers, well half of them, and assumed she was just as excited as he was to work together. Not wasting anytime, he grabbed his notebook and got up, moving seats so he could sit next to her. "Hey there partner! Ready to knock this assignment outta the park?" He asked, wearing the same smile from before. Now that he thought about it, he had never really had a full conversation with his classmate. Usually it was just a passing, 'hey' or 'how ya doin'?'. This would be a good time for the two to get to know each other a little better as well as get an easy A. From what he knew of her powers, they could easily take down just about anyone. Or maybe it was just his overconfidence talking again? Either way, they had this in the bag!

She did her best to not skitter away as he decided that now was the best time for their discussion, casting her eyes away, down at her notebook with her carefully written Persian notes, thankful for both her niqab and abaya, as usual. They kept his eyes directly off of her, and for that, she was infinitely grateful.
She could not comprehend how others were comfortable with it, but each to their own, she would not shame.
"I, I am..." she murmured, feeling ashamed of this glint of fear that kept itself within her, even as her mind attempted to reassure her, telling herself that it made logical sense. She did not wish to die again, did she?
No, definitely not, but still...
Either way, Sooraya steeled herself, forcing her eyes to rise up and fall just below Sonic's own, focusing on his cheeks, as otherwise, it would be improper, or at least uncomfortable. "I am certain we will be able to easily accomplish such a task, as long as we are careful with how we present the application of our powers." Her subtle way of hinting at the fact that he needed to be careful began.
Of course, if he did not realize, she would plainly state why when it came to strategies. It was certainly a good thing to know, even if part of her whispered about the dangers of him knowing, because if he ever turned- No. This Kevin was not like the other.
Besides, they did not even have to necessarily use their powers! While it was extra credit, and though in most classes, she went for it, despite her typically stellar grades, they did not have to, not unless he felt the need to boost his own grade.
Yes, Dust thought, relaxing a fraction, this could be okay.

He could tell that she was uneasy around him, but why was the question. Maybe it was his extremely good looks? As much as he'd like to believe that, he knew that wasn't the case. Did he have bad breath? He didn't think so, he had brushed his teeth that morning. Did... Did she think he was ugly? Ha ha! Yeah right, like that'd Ever be the case! What was it though? He couldn't think of anything else that it could possibly be. Then again, from what he knew she was always the quiet type, maybe she was just shy? Especially around loud, talkative people like himself. Yeah, that sounded about right.
"Cool!" He had to calm down, ease her into this partnership. If he came on too strong, she might just shy away from him forever and he didn't want that. Especially if they were going to work together on this project. Communication was key on stuff like this! He raised an eyebrow slightly at her mention of being careful with their powers. Be careful? There was no time to be careful when evil was afoot! Well, maybe if there were innocent bystanders and property around that could potentially be destroyed, but other than that he liked to cut loose when in a fight! Go all out, full throttle! There had to be a reason, and then it hit him. Why she seemed so uncomfortable around him, why she felt the need to mention carefulness. He remembered what her powers were exactly, and he thought of his own.
She was a sand-based mutant, practically transforming into a beach at will. And with his flames.... If he heated her enough he could turn her into glass and break her or something, and he wasn't exactly sure but he was pretty sure that'd kill her, which was the last thing he wanted. He gave her an understanding nod. "Careful is my middle name!" He assured, flashing her a grin and a thumbs up. Now that he had figured that out, all he had to do was make sure she trusted him enough not to accidentally kill her. Should be simple enough right? This was, after all, the guy who felt bad when he stepped on a bug.
"Wonder which baddie we'll be assigned. I hope it's nobody too easy, I like a challenge." He said, attempting to make conversation. ((Sorry bout the wait, got busy with work and school.))

Careful is his middle name? Sooraya was... unsure if he was just agreeing to agree, or if he truly had understand what she was saying (it was a bit of a stretch, after all, and she was positive that he could not know the true extent no matter how accurate he was), but she accepted it with a slight nod, moving on from that.
She would have to hold him to it... And flee at a moment's notice, if necessary.
The Islamic girl shrugged lightly at the statement, though, giving a small nod. "Normally I would disagree, but seeing as we do not have to truly fight them, and merely plan, someone difficult would be perfectly fine... And if it is someone that is easy, then we will not learn anything from this exercise." Which defeated the point... She would have to say that yes, she agreed, then.
It would certainly help if they were to come up against them in the future, too... Having a basic knowledge of their enemies' weaknesses and what would work best against them would certainly help in that matter. Come to think of it... They probably had information on all of the major enemies.
That would actually be very good knowledge to have, even for beyond this project. She would certainly have to remember that.
"If it's someone I have fought before, I will be able to give input in that area, though..." Sooraya smiled faintly, eyes crinkling. "I believe we will be fine, no matter who we get."
Definitely so! Now to just find out who exactly they were to receive, papers were being passed out according to who they were to get... It was not random, which is most likely why it was not taking less time. [OOC: Okay! Either you can pick out who they have in your next post, or just don't state and I'll pick someone out in my next one. <3 Whichever you want!
