Worried, that was how Cole felt, he had heard what happened to Atta. He didn't know what the cause was, he didn't know who had done it, he had no idea who was to blame. What he did know was she was hurt bad and he was already to the hospital. He had rushed to the desk concern painted across his face. He couldn't stop thinking about her, if she was ok, if she was in serious danger. He hadn't been there, he hadn't been there to protect her.
Cole was blaming himself, for not being there, he wouldn't let her be along in this hospital surrounded by people she was no doubt lashing out at. The lady at the desk was rather nice, seeing the concern she directed him to the proper wing. He bolted through the halls slipping between people. Even at one point using his powers to leap over someone who seemed a bit stunned he was able to do it. He merely yelled sorry and kept running. He was coming up on the room.
Cole came rushing into the intensive care area. The orderlies stopped him there, they were intent on not letting him pass. This was apparently only for family members. He knew they wouldn't be showing up, he was here, and dammit he was getting through.
"Sorry kid we can't let you in."
Cole's hands began to shake, he was going through them one way or the other.
“Either let me through or I'll move you.”
His carefree gaze gone, he was stern, serious, almost threatening. The big man in front of him merely chuckled as he leaned forward.
"Really kid? C'mon just follow th..."
A simple reach forward his hand tapping the man and he was sent flying foward. Not too fast, enough to make him fall flat on his ass, and then came the other men around each one being met with a similar reaction. Finally the head nurse stepped in, a middle aged woman, she seemed nice, and scared. They all must have simply thought he was rather strong. But the older lady seemed to realize what he was, what he was capable of, she smiled at him and spoke.
"Who are you here to see?"
"Atta Swanson,"
The woman smiled and led him to her room opening the door and speaking into the room.
"Ms. Swanson you have a visitor, a very determined young man. He seems..."
Without waiting for Atta to answer Cole rushed past the nurse and was soon right next to her the concern on his face clear as day.
"ATTA! Are you ok? Tell me your ok! Who did this? What happened? and I'm sorry....I should of been there! I could of helped you..."
He seemed almost in tears from worry, his friend, his only friend here was hurt. He hadn't been there to protect her....it was his fault. He was truly worried, he thought he may have lost her, he couldn't bear the thought of losing her...

Lashes fluttered as Atta's eyes slowly greeted the bight glow of the white walled hospital room. Sun filtered through the blinds, blending into the high grade light fixtures that lit every corner of the room. The smell of rubbing alcohol and other such sterilizers filled her nostrils, not helping at all to properly wake her. Yet there was something that brought her out of the restful slumber she found was becoming less and less appealing by the day. Though her condition had been serious upon arriving a day and a half ago, the schools medical team had done wonders to have her back to physical health. Her powers and mental state were still drained and shaken from the ordeal. Enough so that the teachers had her remain under constant watch, for both safety and health.
The reason for her groggy stirring, was growing ever louder out in the hall. At first the beeping of the heart monitor jumped up to a rapid tempo, her mind instantly fearing the worse, as was normal with the attack she had just faced. That monster of a machine had been nothing but an average man, so who else was ready to go gundam and try to finish the job. Slowly though, as voices became clearer, she swore she could make out one of them. A familiar tone, that took the all the fear away, and instead filled her with a calming warmth. It could have been her mind playing tricks, but the crashing and thrashing seemed all to apropos. Cole had to be out there, and was doing his best to get in, he had to be.
Sitting up slowly she fixed the ridiculous hospital gown and using the remote, tilted the bed up so she could lean back on it in her up right position. Eyes glued to the door, part of her wanting to take the IV from her arm just to go tell the idiots outside to let him through, even if she had no doubt Cole would handle it on his own, her aggressive nature still had her charged and ready to give some one hell if she did not get to see her friend, her only friend.
As the door opened her eyes were narrowed, expecting a nurse to be requesting her permission, to which she was more then willing to chew the medical staff member out for. Instead, as the knob turned and the door panel burst forward, she was met with the snowy white hair and panicked eyes of the only person in the world she wanted to see right now. Softly she let herself mumble his name while he let out question after question and all his concern in under two seconds. Shaking her head the blonde could not help but chuckle at his frantic over flow of speech. "Cole.." she said louder and with her usual confidence "..I'm fine. Well now anyway, just you know, shaken up and sick of being in this hospital bed". Her attitude was always a cover for the insecurity she felt, but with Cole around she felt less and less like being a harsh jerk, and toned things back to mild annoyance and sarcasm. Here, tucked up in a hospital bed, she dared even give him a genuine smile. "I'm glad your hear though, but now is better than before. That thing, the 'monster' that attacked me, Cole there was nothing we could have done, nothing 'you' could have helped to do. I only just.." something caught in her throat, her hand shaking ever so slightly as she could no longer hold her gaze higher than her own lap. "../just/ survived..".
Atta hated how the heart monitor gave away her fears, the nervous tremor on the screen displaying blatantly that she was still terrified of what had happened. No matter of tough words or cheeky grinning could silence that obvious give away. "That thing, none of use could beat it. And if you had been there, if you were hurt..." Atta's breath drew in long and deep before she leaned back on her propped up bed "...I'd rather not have woken up here or anywhere..you know." Her voice had a forced strength, but there was a hidden rasp of sorrow to it. Her fingers flexing and curling to try and both hide as well as perhaps stop the tremble in them. Glancing to her friend did help, since the day them met and began to train, she always felt relaxed in his presence. He was like a healthy drug, a fresh does of comfort and stability that her life had desperately needed.

Anger, the desire for revenge, the monster that had attacked his friend, had hurt his friend, his only friend, the one person in his new life at the academy he deeply cared for. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her, the thought of her hurt, the thought of him not being able to protect her. The thought of anything bad happening to her. Anyone hurting her, but she was ok, well as ok as one could be after being attacked by some robot thing. He didn't know what it was but from the way she spoke of it, it was something she couldn't handle on her own. Now granted Cole and her had worked on Teamwork over the past few weeks, finding things they could combine to make more powerful. They had done well so far, and Atta had mastered her powers. Cole was glad she had too, she wasn't as hesitant to be close to him anymore.
They had spent many nights sneaking out of the academy and going to the junkyard, she even fondly nicknamed him "Junkyard Dog." It was fitting, he was a loyal friend, he had spent a lot of time in junkyards training his powers, and to top it off he actually liked the quiet. Not to mention the junkyard was a place he felt almost comfortable, there was no one that could get hurt, and everything there was already broken. But the time they had spent there meant a lot to Cole. They had bonded, in a way most people don't, granted most people don't take a large sum of voltage from a friend. Cole had laughed it off and gotten back up, did it hurt? Well only as much as being shocked by an electrical outlet. His hair was a bit frizzy too, but it had made him laugh.
She was so worried too, so worried she had hurt him even though he had hopped back up. no damage done not even hurt. Then again here they were and she was the one who was hurt. Cole soon stood at the side of her bed within reach of her grabbing the nearest chair. He really wanted to hug her, but he had a feeling that wasn't very appropriate at this point. He instead sat down in the he had moved to her bed and the nurse smiled as she turned to leave. He wondered what they thought of them but in the end what did it matter? They were mutants, but a young man busting into a hospital, knocking around orderlies, and pushing his way through would give plenty of speculation. Cole listened to her speak of how dangerous this thing was, he wouldn't let it hurt her again, he was going to find these monsters and break them, piece by piece.
“I'm just glad your ok Atta....I was so worried....No one told me either...I heard rumors you got attacked. So I rushed here to make sure you were ok. Bastards at the academy wouldn't tell me themselves. Well to hell with them I'm not going anywhere without you. So I'll be right here, no one is gonna hurt you. Not as along as I'm here Shock and Awe right?”
Cole said with a big goofy smile, one he always had when she was around, she made him happy, happy she was there, and she made him laugh. Granted sometimes her humor went over his head. But he was worried right now and more serious than normal. Not only that anyone who tried to move him would be getting a nice push from his power. No one was taking him anywhere.

Atta had never heard Cole use such a serious tone before, but along with that smile she knew everything was going to be okay now. She had her best friend here with her, and her heart was beating, even if it was some what erratic. Cole always did that to her, the only one who made her icy heart melt with only a simple grin. He was so kind, and so supportive, it was impossible to be a downer around him. He brought out the best in her, a side of her personality she thought was long dead.
She could remember now, the fear she felt laying in the rain, wondering if she might ever see that smile again. Praying to what ever deity that came to mind, asking only to see the soft snowy white of his hair again, regretting ever day she spent avoiding the contact of others. She missed her father, her room and her bed for the first time since leaving home. She had feared that it would end that night, and she would never have known love, or even had her first real kiss. For a moment she was sure her life would end before her 18th birthday, and to this moment it still frightened her beyond any comparison she had to date. She knew now what it felt to be hunted, tracked down the road and shot at like vermin. Until that day it all seemed over blown and much more like a racial hatred then a full out kill or be killed situation. There were those truly out with the one intention, to rid the world of mutant kind.
Atta's heart raced just thinking about it, but fortunately Cole's voice kept her mind on the good, for now. Emerald eyes never left him, and her thoughts finally processed what he said. Reaching over she opened her hand, for the first time she used body language to request a physical connection. She needed to feel him, to really be grounded to this moment. Reassured that it was really here now, she was really here, with him. "Trust me...If they told everyone, there would be such a panic. And you know half the kids there are dumb as posts, probably go get themselves killed. Though your right, the least they could have done was seek out my 'one' freaking friend. In stead of leaving me at this 'normal' hospital in hopes I don't put it into a power failure". She rolled her eyes, already trying to mask the fear that gripped her.
Heart skipping a beat, Atta blushed as Cole announced that he was not going to leave her behind. Assuring her he was with her, they were a team. Confirming that he would stand and fight for her now that they were together again. He really was a true knight in shining armor. A gallant and kind man, that she knew she was beyond lucky to have. A genuine smile took to her features, not a smirk or a grin, but a smile. "Shock and awe, you better believe it!" Atta chuckled for the first time in days. Cole was not the only one would would put up one hell of a stink if some one tried to take him away from her now. She had not one else to call on, other than Remy, but he was a busy man. She needed her friend, some one her age, the only some one she had ever felt truly confident around. Cole had made her feel safe about her powers, and only now did she see it was not just that alone. Cole made her feel safe about everything.
"When I get out of this bed, we are going to get ourselves together, and make sure the next time those robo freaks go all Decpticon on some unsuspecting teens..we will be taking it back to the junkyard piece by piece"

Cole couldn't stop the red tinting his face when she didn't stop staring at him. She had done that before just stared at him but normally that was after he said or did something that made him seem hurt while they were training and she was merely waiting to laugh. Then again. he had caught her staring at him on some of the nights where they just sat out under the stars, talking, sharing, getting closer to one another. He always blushed a bit when she looked at him with those emerald eyes. He wasted no time in taking her hand and holding onto it tightly. He had been scared, worried, lost without her. His only friend, his closest friend, they were inseparable at times.
He often times heard whispers of them being "together" he knew what it meant but always played it off as if he didn't hear. He cared about Atta, he knew her, he knew deep down she was the nicest girl he had ever met. Knew that there was something she just didn't want to tell him and he never asked. He liked seeing her smile, it was waaaaaay cuter than her grumpy face but he also saw through the smile. He saw how scared she was but who could blame her? Stupid walking toasters and their weapons. One thing was for sure she was far more level headed than Cole was.
She was right panic was the last thing the school needed, they needed to protect themselves though and that meant they needed to stand up fight right? His mind taken off that train of thought when she said shock and awe he held her hand in a more tender manner. He didn't want to see her get hurt, he wanted payback, he wanted to hunt down those decepticreep wannabes and turn them into spare lawnmower parts. He was sure the owner wouldn't mind parts of robots right? He then smiled and kept her hand in his a smile that hid his true concern for her. He didn't know how to say it, but he didn't want to let her hand go. His tone brimmed with confidence.
“Yeah! Stupid walkin scrap heaps won't know what hit em'.....Atta I am glad you are ok....I was really scared. Scared I'd lost you....”
His eyes seemed full of relief but concern. He wasn't going to let anyone hurt her as long as he was here. She called him Junkyard Dog, maybe she wasn't too far off.

Atta curled her fingers around his hand and gave it a soft squeeze. Something that without his help, might have ended with the undertones of an electric zap. Cole had given her self confidence and now, though only with him, she had not second thoughts about holding on to another living being. It felt good to have a hand to hold on to, and some one that would truly have missed her if she passed. For the longest time she clouded her own mind with thoughts that she would never deserve to have anyone care, and that she was better off with only her own thoughts and feelings. Cole was her light, and in a few short weeks had convinced her that even with her powers she mattered just as much as anyone else.
Nights under the stars, just talking about life or school, or even something funny they had read, snapped her back into a healthy mind frame faster then any therapy. She stopped feeling like she was some monster, and was able to get event he smallest sense of normalcy with him. Together they were just teenagers, powers aside, they were friends. Not the attention hungry, sarcastic and fake kind she had at her old school before her powers, but the kind you kept forever.
Green eyes softened again as Cole properly admitted how frightened he was for her. Atta knew well that he meant every word, Cole was always up front and honest with her. Something she needed, some one she knew wouldn't sugar coat anything just get something or impress her. The concern was evident and it really made her want to burst into tear, just letting everything that happened out. Instead her grip on his hand only tightened, her smile getting wider as she let out a soft laugh. "Take a lot more than fold out robots and lasers to get rid of this stubborn ass. Thought you knew that already?" Atta was cocky as ever, but had to add something on a softer note just to make sure he knew she felt the same way "..thanks though..for everything Cole. I never say it enough, and I know without what you do for me, I would never have fought as hard as I did to make it back.".
Adjusting her shoulders she shifted her weight and leaned back in on the bed frame with a sigh, sick of being there, just sitting around. She was still drained, and slept a lot, but boredom was setting in and her stomach burned for something more than pudding and cafeteria style drivel. "Cole, you think next time you come visit, you can bring me some real food? I swear if its not robots, its the food here that's trying to put me six feet under". Her smiled was back and so was the fire in her eyes. She had her wounds healed, an now, so was her determination and heart.
