The sun had been out all morning, baking the streets below and making her mid afternoon walk a bit to toasty for comfort. The humidity was high, and though it only seemed to worsen the heat it meant something else was on its way. She had heard the first rumble of thunder only a short while ago, and the darker clouds were pulling in swiftly. Golden eyes looked on as the wind finally started to cool and the sings of a storm was upon them. Many chose to make use of this news to finish up for the day but Atta welcomed the rain. Even before knowing of her electrical powers she had loved the feel of cool raindrops and the rush of booming thunder. Black clouds were not so much an omen but a means to wash away the stress and cool off after all the heat of the day and this new school had been at its peak.
Avoiding the last sip of her frappachino which had melted a while ago, she paused in her walk to discard it, taking time to watch the weather pull in. Eyes glued to the sky she turned to head back towards the school knowing the rain would hit soon enough for her to be on the grounds were she could enjoy it, and also be a close distance to a change of wet cloths. That was the plan anyway, but it would seem fate had different goals that day. Had she known what awaited her, the darkness in the sky may have seemed far more foreboding.
As she rounded on of the corner shops, Atta collided with a well dressed man, suit and tie, the whole works. In her lack of focus she was easily knocked back and laded on the hot sidewalk with a groan. At first anger flashed over her eyes, but as she saw the adult smile and apologize she thought back to her 'progress' and tried to calm her anger. Just glad her powers had not flared up. "Uh yeah, it was..uh..just as much my fault.." she said but was instantly wary of the offered hand. Choosing to get up of her own accord she avoided the contact at all costs, hoping he would not be offended. "I'm alright on my own thanks" Atta added and quickly moved around him only to be stopped in her tracks as he spoke.
"Excuse me, miss" his voice was soft and still sounded ever so kindly.
Figuring he was not as okay with the incident as he seemed, she glanced over her shoulder to see him facing her and cringed before turning fully back to look at the finely dressed individual. Her temper still not completely under control however, she crossed her arms. "What did I scuff your fancy shoes?" Atta asked with an annoyance that he was dragging this on after she had been the one whom had ended up on her butt. What he followed up with brought a stillness to her heart, and a chill to her whole body.
"I'm afraid we can't have 'your kind' running around here" The man stated and his sweet smile had taken on a far more sinister feel.
"My...kind?" she asked, but all thoughts of convincing him she was human vanished as his body began to shift and grind. The illusion of humanity soon replaced by the glint of robotics.
Atta's eyes followed the shifting robotic form as it folded out and in on itself, re arranging into what could only be described as mechanics nightmare. An automaton spawned from hell and she didn't need any classes or knowledge to know, this thing had no good intentions for her. "Uh..lets just..call this 'my bad' and go our separate ways..okay?" Atta stated in a small voice as she backed away from the twenty foot tall Sentinel, clad in purple and pink. Two colors she would never see as feminine and dainty ever again.
The transformation finished, she saw the glow of the bots eyes and instinct kicked in. Turning tail she bolted for it, her heart running faster then her feet as she tried to get back to the school. No idea if she could make it or not, but to terrified to look back.
As the rain began to fall she could feel the earth shake as foot steps followed from the enormous killer robot. Some how, it all felt like a dream, a nightmare that she could not wake up from. It couldn't be her mind though, even in a nightmare her legs and lungs had never burned like this. The cold water of the rain on her skin would have woken anyone up by now. Panting hard and heavy she knew this would not work for long, she needed to some how get some distance between herself and the towering tin man.
All thoughts were put on hold as something caught her eye, and just in time. A red glow could be seen in the waters reflection and even though she had never seen such a thing, enough movies told her that this was probably bad. Diving off to the side, she took a hard tumble on the road way. The sickly smell of heated tar leaking from the burnt and cratered earth where the blast had hit. Rolling over she could swear her heart stopped as golden orbs met the smoking hole that had been her previous trajectory. Now was not the time to die in awe, and as the mech turned to train its glowing palm on her once more, she was back up and off.
Every step made her legs want to give out, and her lungs were not only on fire, but drowning in the moist air she had to breath while running through the rain. 'Think Atta think' she tried to force herself away from the pain in her limbs, and back to how not to die. Using the rain fall as warnings of any more glowing death blasts. Out on the open road, she had no option for safety, yet ducking into a building seemed like a good way to have it toppled on you. There had to be something she could do, anything to stop this from being her last few seconds on earth.
Her own mind was not on her side, Atta was lost in formulating a plan when one of the blasts narrowly missed her, enough to cause a burning pain in her right arm and the explosive force as the blast cut through pavement sent her toppling to the side. Eyes opened and the pain shot her back to the night her mother passed. The violence of the accident stunning her for a second as the towering sentinel came to a stop over her. Looking up she managed to get to her feet before a hand came down over her, taking off again, but this time her leg was not bothering her out of exhaustion, there was some serious pain. Stumbling and bleeding she closed her eyes for a moment as the water rushed over her and she knew the android was only a step or two behind her. "Mom...what do I do.." she muttered in a terrified sorrow but the very idea of her mother was all she needed. What better a time then now, against an inorganic attacker surrounded by conductive material, to use the powers she feared. A surge filled the area round her, electrical current bursting out into the water and firing off in ever direction. True the misguided watts did little to the robot, but it did bring out the brightness in ever street lamp, cause an flare of light before they all burst in to a hiss of smoke and glass.
This was the distraction she needed, Atta took the short glare of light to dive off to the side, finding a motorbike parked at one of the street shops and with what little energy she had left, pulling a trick she had developed only a short while ago. The current traveled through the bike causing the engine to turn over and ignite without a key. Just as a third blast cut through the road she was off and headed back for the school, but she was not out of the woods yet.
As distance was put between her and the android, her body was shutting down. The loss of energy was more then she expected, and the shock of it all was starting to grasp at her last stable thought. Everything was blurry, and without a helmet and proper gear the rain bit at her skin like bullets. Eyes barely open as tried to navigate in the shower, only to find her vision closing in. "Just a little..further..." he hand was dropping from the throttle. She was loosing the battle and after it all, only made it to a few feet from the gate as the bike came to a call and both machine and rider fell over in a sudden and still silence that Atta could swear she mistook for the bliss of heaven. What happened next was officially out of her control. Still, and soaked to the bone, with burns over her right arm, and badly twisted ankle she awaited what fate choose for her. The rain already starting to stop as lost consciousness. The dark backs of her eye lids a welcome comfort, but she knew deep down she had to keep fighting, it couldn't be over yet, not yet.
