is it time to let go - - - - - - - - - ► and rise above? After spending her morning training with her power, Robyn was starving. Robyn entered the cafeteria with a book in her hand, her stomach had determined it was lunch time an hour ago. She had no complaints about the food served here for the last two years since she arrived. Everything was always good. There was always a variety of food to choose from. Of course she liked the occasional junk food, but her go to lunch food was always a sandwich or a salad of some sort, topped with meat and cheese. The cafeteria always had a few students in it whether it was to grab a snack, a meal or just to chill. It was busier during meal times of course.
The girl walked over to the salad bar and grabbed a plate. She began to fill the plate. One thing was certain about being here though, she missed her mom's cooking. Meal times always made Robyn a little homesick. After filling her plate with lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, olives, turkey, cheese and a hard boiled egg, she grabbed a water and headed to a table.
She sat down at an empty table and started in on her food. She heard the murmur of other students in the distance. Robyn wasn't a loner per se, she did enjoy the company of others, but she got along fine being in the company of just herself. While she ate, Robyn opened her book and continued through it. She wasn't much into reading but there was a reading list she had to get through. Little distractions around her pulled her attention away from the book every now and then. When she saw more people filter into the cafeteria, she decided to close her book and just finish her food so she could find a quiet place. YOU CAN RISE ABOVE

"Is this seat taken?" Steve asked the girl. Not that it mattered, he just plopped himself down across from her anyway. He was wearing the standard school uniform, albeit the tie looked disheveled (he knew he hated wearing ties, so he never put in much effort). The irises or his eyes were currently that dirty mustard yellow, which meant only one thing.
About ten feet above Steve floated a tray. On this tray was his version of a healthy lunch: A BLT with no T and extra B, a plate of chicken, and he would swear that underneath that bleu cheese dressing was a salad.
Steve noticed that she had a book with her; normally that was the universal sign among people to back the heck off and leave the person alone, but he assumed this school was like any other high school and had their cliques, so he didn't even think about trying to sit anywhere else. "So what're you reading?" he asked of her. He actually felt a little rude just sitting down and trying to strike up a conversation. For all he knew she hated people and read to prevent herself from using her powers to liquefy someone's brain. 'They wouldn't let someone like that in here... Would they?' he thought, hating himself just a little bit more for all the uncharacteristic neurotic behavior he'd been experiencing since he'd got here. He really had no idea what had been wrong with him.
Steve was still pretty uncomfortable with all of this. He felt like his only option was to treat it like a normal high school. Even though that dude a few tables down had spikes coming out of him, and that girl over there clearly had fairy wings. He also had a lot of adjusting to with these classes. He didn't know if he'd be required to take the Sex Ed class, but he knew that if a guy wearing a trench coat was the professor, he should probably avoid it at all costs.

Robyn didn't expect company. It isn't that she didn't welcome it, it was that she usually sat alone. Occasionally someone from her classes would sit at the same table. She preferred not to dine at the peak meal times if she could help it. A boy joined her. She had seen him around but didn't really know him. The girl politely smiled. She wondered if this guy was new. He seemed nice enough.
"No it isn't. It's rare that the seats around me are taken," she said, with a slight laugh. She could make make more friends, but she was quiet.
The boy asked her about the book she was reading. She looked down at her book and then back up at him.
"The Great Gatsby," said Robyn. "Just trying to get through the list of books to read before the summer is over. Truthfully, I'd rather watch the movies." She gave a smirk. It wasn't that she hated reading, she just got impatient because books seemed to move slower. "This book is boring so far."
She sipped her drink. Her salad was half eaten. She looked at it, not sure if she wanted to finish it. It was at the point where she wasn't sure if she was full or not. A few students left the cafeteria, laughing and talking amongst themselves. This school had cliques like any high school. It was common when teenagers were involved. She had never been like that though.
"I'm Robyn by the way," she said, reaching her hand out to shake his.

"I'm Steve, nice to meet ya," he replied, tossing his own hand out to shaker hers. He was slightly relieved that she was okay with him just sitting down and wasn't melting his face off. Aside from the redhead, the French chick, the speedy dude, and the other guy, he hadn't really met any of the other students. And he hadn't seen a single one of them since his room was an impromptu party site.
"Not gonna lie, I would never read those kind of books. I'm not uncultured or anything, but when I try reading old junk it just goes right over me." He wouldn't admit to pretty much only reading fantasy and Harry Potter, but the few times he read it was only fantasy and Harry Potter.
Steve looked around before leaning in slightly. "Hey listen, I know this'll sound super weird, but I'm dying to know. Are we gonna learn how to be legit superheroes here? Because seriously, this school is run by superheroes, so they gotta show us some of that stuff, right?" He'd wanted to ask one of the teachers but he was sure they'd say no regardless of the truth. It was a stupid question, but the thought was just too awesome to not get an answer on.
There's a fun fact about Steve that people don't noticed right away but learn over time. When he gets excited about or interested in something, he will forget about anything else currently on his mind. And the thought of possibly being a superhero was a super exciting thought. The problem with that is that he was SUPPOSED to be focusing on his floating lunch.
His eyes lost their mustard color and before he even had a chance at remembering it, his lunch came crashing down on him. The tray landed on the floor with a loud whap and his salad was now more of a hat, with dressing sliding down his face. Steve remained frozen for a few seconds before wiping bleu cheese out of his eye. Saying nothing more than, "uhhh..." he looked over to Robyn, hoping none hit her.

"Nice to meet you Steven," said Robyn before sipping her drink. She wondered if this kid was new to the institute. He seemed like it in her eyes.
The boy then commented on her reading materials. She picked it up. "Oh, these kind of books? They're okay. This one however drags," she said, her Georgia accent coming through. The redhead brushed some hair behind her ear and grabbed a crouton from her plate, munching on it. She looked up at the boy sitting across from her.
She had been at the school 2 years now, so she knew what the mission of the school was. So, when Steven asked about them becoming superheroes, she'd be able to answer. She gave a smile. "Well, this place is here to teach us how to live with our powers, mainly, but yeah, if we excel then we train to be X-Men," she answered. The prospect of becoming an X-Man was enough to make most students try hard to succeed. Being an X-Man required leadership skills, physical fitness, power control for the most part and heart.
Robyn watched as the boy's lunch floated. She gave a smile. "That's an amazing ability," she commented. Anything with the mind fascinated her. Then her look turned to shock as the boy dropped his food. Luckily nothing hit her, but she felt the poor boy must have been embarrassed as the few people in the room started laughing. She stood up and walked around the table. She would help him clean up. She looked over at the boys laughing at him and gave a look. "Take a picture it'll last longer!" She exclaimed to the boys with a hint of sarcasm. "As if you guys have never had a mishap with your powers," the girl said, before focusing on helping Steven clean up. Robyn felt bad for him. "Don't mind them," she said as she picked up the pieces of lettuce.
